Kundalini Yoga is an ancient form of yoga that was brought to the west by Yogi Bhajan in the late 1960s. It is the Yoga of Awareness that works on the body, mind, and spirit delivering each practitioner to their highest consciousness. It uses kriyas (sets of yoga poses), mantra, pranayama (breath work), movement, and meditation, to work the whole body system (glands, nervous system, chakras, mental faculties) to develop in the student a compassionate and contemplative self-awareness that leads to peace, a stronger immune system, and a calm heart. The kriyas strengthen the nervous/glandular/muscular systems, quiet the monkey mind, support a healthy flexible spine, and improve lung capacity. Each class includes meditation, mantra, and deep relaxation where the fruits of each practice can be integrated in the body.
Kundalini Yoga classes are universally suitable for students of all abilities. Students new to yoga and meditation are always welcome.
For your comfort please bring the following items to each Kundalini Yoga class:
• Yoga Mat
• Cushion(s) or light Blanket (anything that will help you sit comfortably for an extended period, including meditation)
• Light Blanket or shawl/sweater, socks, eye pillow (items desired to enhance your relaxation period).
• Water Bottle
What to wear: clothing that you can easily move in.
Eating/Drinking before class: it is best to practice on an empty stomach (allow 2 ½ hours after eating). It is best to be well hydrated before and after class.
Arrival: Please arrive before class begins to register and to get settled. If you arrive as class is beginning, please enter quietly and find a place in the back of the class.
